Pastor Jarvis was born in St. Louis County, Missouri to Bob and Joyce Jarvis. After completing  his undergraduate graduate degree at Concordia, Seward,  he went on to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and graduated in 1990. His first call was to Our Redeemer in Moorhead Minnesota in August of 1990.  Then in 1993 he was called to serve the congregation at Faith Lutheran in Menomonie WI.  He served Faith until he was called to Morris, Minnesota in 1999 to serve the congregation at Zion and the students of the University of Minnesota, Morris. In January of 2011 he was installed as the pastor of Hosanna Lutheran in Buffalo. In June of 2017, Hosanna joined with Bethlehem Lutheran in Annandale to operate as a dual parish.  Pastor Jarvis currently serves both congregations.

His transition to Buffalo included a battle with stage IV non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, being diagnosed in 2010.  His treatments included both chemotherapy and  bone marrow transplant. After a brief re-appearance in 2012, his  cancer is now in remission.

Shortly after settling into Buffalo, he met Joanne, whom he met and married on Pentecost Eve.  Together, they have four adult children: Andrew, Hannah, Michaela and Sarah.  They are also working on navigating the Mississippi River from Itasca to the Gulf of Mexico.

Pastor Jarvis likes the scene in Bo Giertz's book The Hammer of God where an old, experienced pastor, takes a fresh, new pastor aside, points out a window to the parish and says, "There's your teacher, my boy."  His years of pastoral ministry have been filled with constant learning, particularly how to be faithful to his call, and his vocations as a husband to Joanne and father to his children.   He is always eager to learn more but also always eager to share what he has learned.  He is grateful to be Lutheran and convinced the faith as confessed in the Book of Concord is the faith Jesus taught his apostles.   He enjoys caring for God's sheep at Hosanna, filling them with the Lord's gifts at worship, and then turning them out to serve their neighbor in their various callings.
